Firefox Environment Backup Extension (FEBE)

FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions.  In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files.  so that you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.

FEBE  backs up and restores your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, cookies. and much more.A "Full profile" backup includes everything contained in your Firefox profile.  It is all or nothing and cannot be selectively restored (at least not easily).  A restored profile will look exactly the same as when the backup was performed.

Backup as little or as much of your Firefox environment as you wish.  Perform backups on demand or schedule daily, weekly, or monthly unattended runs.  Sequential backups can be stored in timestamped directories so you can restore back as far as you like.

You may specify "User-defined" items to have FEBE backup Thunderbird, Greasemonkey scripts, or virtually any data on your computer - Firefox related or not.

Wine 1.2 release candidate has been released.

Wine 1.2 is not yet released as expected but now a new release candidate for Wine 1.2 has been released. This is the sixth release candidate for Wine 1.2. Wine 1.2 RC6 has a lot of bug-fixes and some more translations. There are still a few bugs left to be fixed but I hope that it will get solved and Wine 1.2 will be released this month.

How to view Silverlight web content in Ubuntu.

Microsoft Silverlight is a web application framework that provides functionalities similar to those in Adobe Flash, integrating multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime environment.

Moonlight

For linux users Silverlight is not available as it is therefore Mono has developed Moonlight  which enables viewing web content that has been created for Microsoft Silverlight. It's rather new, and doesn't deliver as smooth a user experience as we would like. Hopefully that will improve in the future.
Note: Do not install Moonlight from the Ubuntu repositories, because the version they contain is usually outdated. query moonlight-plugin-mozilla in Synaptic Package Manager (System –> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager) to see whether it has been installed. If found to be installed, remove it completely.

Then install the most recent version of Moonlight as follows: visit this website and install the plugin. If you visit Microsoft Silverlight Website you will be asked to install silverlight and be redirected to the very site mentioned above.

Then install the necessary codecs for the Moonlight player: right-click with the mouse on a Silverlight video and choose "Install Microsoft Media Pack". You can find a Silverlight video on some websites, for example on the Dutch History Channel.

When the video doesn't start to play automatically, after you've installed the Microsoft Media Pack, just  reload the web page . now you can view Silverlight web content using Firefox.
